The Studio School is a public arts integration magnet school within the Adams 12 Five Star school district. Our students come from all regions of the school district. The school opened its doors in the fall of 2008 to 150 students, Kindergarten to 2nd grade.
At The Studio School, teachers employ research-based best practices in arts integration and teaching to enrich and enhance students' understanding of academic material. We weave state and district standards, curriculum, and the arts together to create a seamless approach to learning and teaching.
Arts Integration in The Classroom
Using research-proven strategies and techniques, teachers integrate the arts their classrooms on a regular basis. Children improve reading skills, fluency, expression and comprehension through Reader's Theater or story dramatization. Key concepts in science or math are solidified or assessed with the integration of a visual arts project. Cultural/thematic units immerse children in the art, literature, music, dance, and people of a time period or culture. Children learn to collaborate with each other and in groups; they also learn to be independent and self-reliant. Respect for materials, property, and each other is expected and strongly encouraged.
Because we enroll students from every corner of the Adams 12 Five Star school district, we have a wonderfully diverse student population. We have high expectations for our students, our parents, and our staff. We value and honor collaboration, respect, creativity, tolerance, understanding, and encouragement. Our teachers are highly qualified and talented in many different areas. We are life-long learners and continually seek out opportunities to expand our repertoire of teaching strategies.
